Natural And Not Artificial Sweetener of #NuNaturals! (Review)

If you are into healthy alternatives, and  have a sweet tooth like me but trying to maintain a healthy weight, and if you are diabetic and have to watch your blood sugar level after meal  or if you are just simply trying to loss weight but can't give up your favorite dessert. Great news!! There is a company out there that makes healthy and natural alternative for sweeteners. Yes! natural and NOT artificial sweeteners. I am so glad that I was given the opportunity to review their products. I am a health conscious person but I also have a sweet tooth, I need to balance the two. I want to enjoy my sweets while maintaining a healthy body and healthy weight.

Before I share my review, let me tell you first what I learned about this company.

NuNaturals is an Oregon Company serving our customers for 25 years with Quality, All-Natural products. We offer approximately 80 SKU's of products from Bilberry to Xylitol, a line of outstanding Green Teas, a complete assortment of Gourmet Pure Vanilla Extracts and Fair Trade Plus™ Organic Vanilla Beans under the Singing Dog™ label, plus Red Ape™ Pure Ground Cassia Cinnamon and Cinnamon sticks from Sumatra.(5% of profits from sales of our Cinnamon items will be donated to programs dedicated to the protection & restoration of Orangutan habitat in Indonesia.)

We take a lot of pride in supporting sustainable "Green" business practices. Many of our shipping containers utilize the so called "Packing Peanuts", however several years ago we converted these "peanuts" to a more environmentally conscious packing material using a VEGETABLE STARCH product that completely dissolves in water.

NuNaturals is a member of the American Herbal Products Association and the NNFA as well as their TruLabel Program. We absolutely guarantee that what is on our label is contained in the product and no more. We work very hard to source the Best Quality Herbs and Nutrients available.

Our products DO NOT contain

  • MSG
  • Soy
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Synthetics
  • Artificial Color or Flavors
  • Saccharin
  • Aspartame
  • Sucralose
  • Artificial Sweeteners
The "Natural flavors" contained in some products are from pure plant extracts. If it's not on the label, it's not in the product.

Their Flagship Brand is NuStevia™.  These NON-BITTER Stevia products are available in:
  • NuStevia™ White Stevia Powder Packets
  • Clear Liquid Extracts you can measure by the drop
  • White Stevia Pure Extract Powder-highly concentrated
  • Quick Dissolve Tablets.
One of the products they sent me is the NuStevia™ White Stevia Powder in 100 packets. What I like about this is that it doesn't have that bitter aftertaste and it is zero calorie. For a coffee drinker like me, I always want my coffee sweet. I do not like adding fresh milk to my coffee because it is not sweet. I do not like adding sweetener either because they have bitter aftertaste, yuck! Most of the time I use the liquid coffee creamer or non dairy creamer but who knows what health risks or side effects a non dairy creamer ingredients can bring and it has no nutritional value.

Here's what it says at the back of the box photo IMG_20151118_104632_zpsicpfzqwx.jpg

Finally with NuStevia I can enjoy my coffee adding fresh milk as my creamer. Not only I can enjoy a cup of sweet coffee but I also get nutrients and vitamins from fresh milk. The sweetener has NO bitter aftertaste and it has zero calories.

Another NuNaturals products they sent me for review are their Pure Liquid flavored Stevia that comes in Lemon, Cherry Vanilla and Peppermint flavor. These natural pure liquid flavored sweeteners can be added to your favorite beverages or recipes. What I love about these products is that it doesn't have unpleasant smell or a bitter aftertaste. Don't forget to SHAKE WELL before using.

Lemon NuStevia Alcohol Free  2 oz for $14.15 per bottle - For individual sensitive for alcohol this is for you.  This gluten free lemon flavored Stevia can be added to your tea or coffee, yogurt or sparkling water(makes awesome sugar free soda). 7 drops taste as sweet as 1 tsp of sugar. I added mine to my coffee and I was like wow. Never tried a lemon flavored coffee before but I am liking this one. It gave my coffee a twist of flavor of real lemon. I also added this to a cup of cold water, an instant sweet lemonade.

Cherry Vanilla NuStevia 2 oz for $14.15  per bottle-Two great flavors combine to make a spectular Stevia liquid extract. Add to your seltzer to make a Dr.NuNaturals soda. 5 drops taste as sweet as 1 tsp sugar. I am not a cherry nor a vanilla flavor person but when I added this to my coffee I loved how my coffee tasted like. The combination of two flavors were good.

Peppermint NuStevia Alcohol Free 2 oz for $14.15 per bottle-5 drops taste as sweet as 1 teaspoon. It is great straight out of the bottle. When we were developing this product everyone at NuNaturals tasted the drops by putting a drop on the back of our hands and licking it. Everyone's reaction was the same "Wow!!This tastes like a candy cane." Among the 3 flavors, this is my favorite. I just went crazy with its minty flavor and smell. Adding 5 drops on my coffee daily, yes! I can't drink my coffee without peppermint anymore, my new addiction. You know what I am thinking? I think this is great for making chocolate peppermint cupcakes.

Kiss Looks So Natural Lashes

Another product that was included in my J'Adore Voxbox is the Kiss Lashes. I have never tried using any artificial eye lashes before but I am interested to try this product. The packaging is neat and very handy, at the back is the instructions on how to put it on.

front and back of the package
This is how I look before or without Kiss Lashes, as an inexperience person in putting on eye lashes it took me more than 5 tries before I was able to put one lashes on. I had hard time placing it on my natural lash line. Not sure if it was the product or if it was my inexperience.

without kiss lashes

right eye with Kiss Lashes

Finally after many attempt, I was able to put them on in both eyes. The lashes looks nice, a bit long for me so I trimmed it. It proves to show that practice makes it perfect.

It adds beauty to my already good looking tantalizing eyes ha ha. However, since I am not used to wearing one I was not comfortable. Maybe if I wear it once more I will get the hang of it. Also, I wear prescription glasses so the lashes were touching my lenses even after trimming it and that adds to discomfort especially on my vision.

Maybe it will work better if I wear contact lenses, the problem is I can't wear one. I tried many times to wear contact lenses but it just didn't work out.

So, what do I think about the Kiss Lashes?

  • It is nice if you are used to wearing one, if not, then you probably find it not so impressive and not easy to put on just like me.
  • Won't work if you are wearing prescription glasses unless if it does not bother you that it touches your glass lenses.
  • I would say this lashes looks natural and you can wear it many times because its a good quality lashes.
  • Not sure if I will buy one, maybe I will If I really need to wear one for a special occasion. Like I said I do not wear artificial lashes.

John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3 Day Straight Flat Iron Spray

I was thrilled when I received my J'Adore VoxBox, it was my first box from Influenster. When I opened it I saw this product from John Frieda, it's a Frizz-Ease  flat iron spray. This product is supposed to make my hair straight for 3 days after ironing.

I have a long, thick and heavy black hair, usually I tie it to the back otherwise I would get headache. It's easier to work around the house too if it's tied to the back  and my hair won't be in the way while I'm working. However, it makes my hair wavy and tangled. There were days I won't comb it because I had hard time untangling it, with my busy schedule as a mom and a full time nanny. I just do not have the time to take care of my hair. I have tried other flat iron brand before but it only made my hair straight for a day.

my wavy hair before ironing

So, I tried the product to see if it works. After taking shower, I sprayed the product on my damp hair, combed it to distribute evenly and then blow-dry it. Then I used my flat iron to finish the process.
my hair on the right has been ironed with frizz-ease spray and on the left was not ironed yet.

Wow, I love the product. Not only it made my hair straight but it also made my hair feels lighter. I do not know why/ how it made my hair lighter, I felt good about my hair. For the sake of this review, I didn't wash my hair for 3 days. See how my hair looks.

My hair looked shinier, less tangled, easy to comb and straight in  3 days. Also even when I tied my hair to the back it still looks straighter, a little wavy but better looking than my hair without frizz-ease. I found the product easy to use too since it's on a spray bottle. I only ironed my hair on the first day. I had used the products 4 times already in a month and a half and always love the result. However, I found out if I use it twice a week, it dries out my hair so I will only use it twice a month.

Driving Through Port Washington, Wisconsin Part 2 (The Popcorn Store)

Driving Through Port Washington Part 1

This post is a continuation of my previous post, Driving through Port Washington. It took me more than a month to finish this, I was busy with motherhood stuffs.

It was almost lunch time and we were getting hungry. While driving around downtown, I spotted this newly opened popcorn store, Broadway Popcorn. Actually they started their business in Port Washington around 2013 but this was my first time visiting the store. This store is a Wisconsin pride because it is a local business.

When we went in, we were greeted by a friendly lady  who was the cashier that day. She then  told us to try their samples if we don't know what flavor/s to get. I have sweet tooth so I'd like my popcorn to be sweet and so was my son. So, we tried two flavors of their caramel popcorn. They have variety of caramel flavored popcorn, If I remembered correctly, I think we tried the chocolate caramel and the caramel cashew.

I love how organized and tidy the store was. There were tables and chairs too if you want to stay and enjoy snacking on popcorn with your friends and family. We liked the flavors we tasted and so we bought one small bag of each and a bottle of soda. It wasn't the healthiest combination of snack for sure as the popcorn were too sweet. But it was just something to ease our hunger while travelling.

We had a great time driving around Port. We went home to eat our lunch. Now, we can't wait for the summer to come so we can enjoy doing outdoor activities.

Updating My Prescription Glasses

I have been wearing glasses for almost five years. I have astigmatism on both eyes and it's affecting my distant vision. Astigmatism or Toric in other term makes objects and texts look blurry from the distance. I can see okay from the computer range but beyond that I will get headache. My glasses also helps me when I am driving, not only I don't get dizzy but I can also see the street signs and the road clearly even on the distance.

My old prescription glasses was single vision and the lenses were poly-carbonate with Platinum finish no-glare and transition. Poly carbonate lens is a better and durable lens than plastic because it has impact resistance, holds better against scratch and  has UV protection. Platinum finish no-glare or anti-reflective coating removes glare or reflection of light on your lenses. Your vision won't be distracted by glare especially headlights at night can blind you suddenly. It is great for driving at night or doing your shopping where there are too many lights in the store. Transition is an add on to my lens, it changes the color of my lens from transparent to almost dark when the sunlight hits it.

Where I got my glasses the poly carbonate lens cost $30 per lens x 2= $60, platinum finish no-glare was $25 x 2=$50 and transition was $32.50 x 2=$65. My frame was  a $38 frame. I paid a total of $213. I love it, it didn't feel heavy when I wore it.

my old Rx glasses

Last week I got myself a new prescription glasses. It took me more than 2 years to get a new one. I kept putting it off, just didn't want to spend money even when I had the money to spend. Hubby knew that my old glasses was giving me a headache and he kept pushing me to get  a new one but I was stubborn. Well, one day my middle son sat on it and broke one of the arms. Great!! right? My hubby kind a thanked him because it prompted me to get a new pair of glasses.

My new pair of Rx glasses without the no-glare coating

I love my new glasses but I regret  not getting the Platinum Finish No-glare this time. I was trying not to spend too much, although the no glare was only $50 more I thought that I can get away with not having it. I was totally wrong. Can you see the reflection of the light on my lenses? It was bothering my vision and I can even see the reflection on the lenses. For this glasses I spent $78. It was actually $98 but the store offered $20 discount.  My frame cost $38, my lenses were $ 60 poly carbonate but doesn't have a transition. Not having a transition does not bother me because I can wear my prescription sunglasses when I drive.

Lesson learned for me? It's okay to spend more on something that helps correct my vision. I am planning to get another pair  but this time with no-glare coating and this one I am wearing right now will become my back up glasses.

When The Weather Got Warmer

Today it was beautiful in the cold tundra of Wisconsin. The snow had slowly melted, the sky was clear and the weather was 50°F. The wind was calm, a perfect day to be out and about with kids. Glad my friend came over and invited me out for a walk. So we took our kids to the YMCA park and another friend of ours with her son joined us. We let the older kids play at the park while the babies stayed on the cart  and stroller.

my little man with his friend
The ground was  and still covered with snow, it was a foot deep when we tried to walk around. Although the kids were not wearing heavy snow outfits, they didn't seem to feel  cold. They were busy running, climbing and chasing each other.
my son is laying down comfortable

Me and my friend let our babies try the swing. They liked it, my baby enjoyed swinging back and forth.
my baby on the swing

His older brother joined us and offered to swing him. My baby was sitting quietly and then later started laughing every time his big brother push the swing.
my two adorable boys

Here are the best buddies. My son is the one standing while his friend sat down. The two just rested after an exhausting play time.

Thanks God for great friends. With my  busy schedule being a mom of 3 boys and a full time nanny of a baby as old as my youngest son, I seldom go out for a walk and also the weather does not help. It was good to be able to go out, hanged out with friends and have some fresh air. The babies were exhausted when we came back home, they were tired looking around and being amazed on what they saw. Can't wait for the spring to come and most of all can't wait for the summer time.

Thanks to my friend Cass for some of the beautiful photos she let me post on my blog.

Pasta With Tuna and Alfredo Sauce

This was our dinner last night and my older son loved it, he took some to school for his lunch today. My middle son is so picky and won't try anything that looks weird for him lol. I have a friend who kept asking for this recipe and I told her that I am going to blog about it when I have time so she can access to it anytime she wants. Finally, here's the recipe she has been waiting for. If you are a tuna lover, you will enjoy this delicious and easy to make pasta. If you hate tuna I can't help you lol but I hope you give this recipe a chance. There's a secret ingredient that will give a twist on the flavor. Okay it's not a secret anymore because  I will reveal it, it,s bacon. If you want to try this recipe here's what you need.

  • 340 grams No yolk Pasta or any pasta you like(cooked it according to package instruction)
  • 2 containers of  454 grams  Alfredo Pasta sauce
  • 340 grams canned tuna in water
  • 1/4 cup onion
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • black pepper
  • salt
  • dried or fresh parsley
  • Parmesan grated cheese
  • bacon bits

  • In medium heat saute garlic and onion in vegetable oil, then add the tuna. Cook and stir until it looks light brown. Sprinkle black pepper and salt to taste.
  • Add Alfredo Pasta sauce, let it simmer for few minutes until the sauce is warm but occasionally stir it to avoid burning your sauce.
  • Add pre-cooked pasta, mix until the pasta is covered with sauce. Remove from the stove and serve while it is still warm. Garnish it with parsley, bacon bits and grated Parmesan cheese.

Best served with garlic bread or toasted buttered bread. We ate ours without any bread.

Vegetable Salad For Lunch

It was lunch time and I didn't know what to eat. I steamed rice this morning but I didn't feel like eating rice today. I was craving for something light and crunchy in the tummy. Suddenly, I remembered I bought a bag of vegetable salad last weekend and it's waiting to be devoured. I know I have to eat it sooner because the vegetable salad even the sealed and ready to eat one you can buy from the store does not stay fresh long.

So I decided to have a big bowl of vegetable salad. High in fiber, nutrients and vitamins I needed as a breastfeeding mom.  Fortunately I have all of the ingredients I needed. Here's what my vegetable salad consist of:

  • a package of ready to eat vegetables : carrot, red cabbage and lettuce
  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • left over baked chicken tender
  • crouton
  • Catalina dressing: rich and tangy

Yum! It was very easy to make, delicious and healthy meal but I think I put too much cheddar cheese. Sometimes  I love adding hard boiled egg to my salad but today I didn't. What I love about making vegetable salad is that I can play with my recipe and add anything I feel like adding like sesame seeds or baked fish fillet.

How about you? How do you prepare your vegetable salad? Do you have a favorite recipe?
