This is my oldest son getting his haircut. He has a very thick and curly hair. Since the weather is getting warmer and his hair is getting longer, we thought it's the best time for him to get a haircut. We asked him if he wanted one. At first, he said no, but then later he agreed. The Christian school where he and his middle brother attend to has a haircut policy and also my son spend too long in front of the mirror fixing his hair. He would put styling cream and comb it over and over in a certain way. He won't even let me touch it. He would say "Mom don't mess up my hair, I work hard on it". In a few years, we're going to have a teenager in this household. Phew! Where the time went?

hubby is giving him a hair cut |
We purchased a hair cutting kit two years ago because I was not happy with how much we paid for one simple hair cut. I am very frugal mom and if there's a way I can save money, I'll do it. I have two older boys and a hubby who need hair cut two to three times a year. We would pay $15 to $20 per hair cut plus a $5 dollar tip for each of my boy's Barbers. We are spending $50 to $60 per transaction. My boys don't need any styling, they are happy to get just a buzz cut and I think I can do it in the comfort of my home for free.

almost done |
Hubby and I would take turn cutting our boys hair while my older son and I take our turn in cutting my hubby's hair. This time my husband gave him a haircut. It turned out okay and my son is no longer spending too much time in front of a mirror.

Not bad at all, my son looks happy |
There were times my hubby would cut my son's hair then I do the finishing touches. I shave or trim the areas that the hair cutter can't reach like around the ears and neck.

We are not a pro but we do it very carefully and none of our kids cried yet because of how bad their haircut turn out to be, LOL. I won't mind going to a haircut class to improve my skills. I would love to cut my boys hair with a nice style. How about you? Do you cut your husband or your children's hair?
I am single with no children so no, I have never attempted to cut anyone's hair including my own. I do agree that having your hair cut professionally is expensive--a lot more then $50.00 for my hair--but then I generally let it grow out until it is too long!
ReplyDeleteHe look just like you sis and great job Dad for the hair cut. Like your family, we have hair cut kit at home, we cut our own hair because it is a great savings for us.
ReplyDeleteYou did a very good job! I agree, it's much cheaper and easier especially for boys to just do it yourself! I do the same with my hubby and son! For the same reason!! lol
ReplyDeleteGreat job! thats a perfect saving way and it looks great!
ReplyDeleteHaha yup, if you want to be more frugal, you can learn how to save more money in the long run by cutting your son's hair by yourselves.
ReplyDeleteyou did a great job! We cut our oldest son's hair too - it's a great way to save money!
ReplyDeleteLol! Nice idea! He's even more handsome now but can you trim his right side hair a little bit? :D
ReplyDeleteEveryone in our house gets their hair cuts at home. When the kids get older if they want something that is beyond my skill level I will consider giving them "Jobs" to earn the money for their haircut themselves.
ReplyDeleteThat's including me too! I'm pretty handy with a pair of scissors ;)
DeleteOh thanks for this post, i remember to visit the barber shop today, yes long hair must be cut if it is getting warmer so that it may refresh us
ReplyDeleteI have aunts who exactly what you and your husband do. They say that it's part of the mom / dad bonding and as long as their kids are not complaining, they'd be pretty much cutting their hair for years :)
ReplyDeleteLol... he really needed a hair cut :p
ReplyDeleteAnd he seems so happy with the haircut :)
Such a cut hairdo! He seems so happy!
ReplyDeleteThat's a big makeover from think hair to a shaved look. That's easier to maintain though.
ReplyDeleteI always cut my husband's & oldest son's hair.. no point in paying for something you can do yourself.. I've also cut my oldest daughter's hair.. which was harder, but it turned out fine.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! It is so important to do things like this to save money. Boys hair seems to be a bit easier than girls.
